Bulk or bagged?
Landscape supply yards sell mulch and gravel in bulk by the cubic yard or the ton. Garden centers sell bags, usually 2 or 3 cubic feet of mulch. One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, so it equals 13.5 bags of 2 cubic feet or 9 bags of 3 cubic feet. For more than two or three yards, bulk delivery is usually the cheaper and easier route.

How much area does a cubic yard cover?
A cubic yard covers 324 square feet at 1 inch deep, 162 square feet at 2 inches and 108 square feet at 3 inches. The same numbers apply to mulch, gravel, soil or sand.
